Three Phases of Blended Learning Certification Course


Overview

Participants in the Three Phases of Blended Learning Certification Program will  participate in the on going discussion about how to implement the blended learning model into the school district, school, and classroom.  The certification program partipants will meet to reflect on the progress of the blended learning implementation as well as focusing on becoming a well rounded blended learning coach.

Overview of the Course 

Module 1: Overview of the Three Phases of Blended Learning 
Module 1 will start with the three key elements to constructing a blended learning environment.  The essential keys include having a vision, use of time, and generating a support system.  Developing a concept of blended learning comprises understanding the definition of blended learning and taking time to redesign the learning environment.  Use of time explores how to get started and generating a Phase 1 lesson plan.  Finally, setting up a support system through the online community, Twitter, or with onsite colleagues helps to round out the vital essential parts of starting blended learning.  
  • Virtual Mini-Lesson with the facilitator- explore the three fundamental essentials to implementing blended learning through classroom examples, lesson plan examples, and deployment plans.  
  • Discussion Questions
  • Project 1: Redesign the learning space or generate a checklist
  • Technology - Learn about adaptive technology tools that can be implemented in the blended learning classroom environment 
Module 2: Phase One of Blended Learning 
Module 2 will explore how to develop and deploy a Phase One lesson plan.  By breaking apart a traditional lesson plan into four areas, the educator will be able to use a Phase One lesson plan within any classroom setting 
Virtual Mini-Lesson with the facilitator - explore the four parts of a blended learning lesson.  Examine example Phase One lesson plans in elementary, middle, and high school learning environments. 
  • Discussion Questions
  • Phase 1 reflection questions to complete before the Phase 1 lesson plan and after the deployment of the Phase 1 lesson plan. 
  • Discussion question based on a Blog Post from Marcia Kish 
  • Project 2 - Create a Phase 1 lesson plan and conduct the lesson with a classroom, staff meeting, and during a professional development workshop 
  • Technology - Using collaboration tools within the blended learning environments 
Module  3: Leveling Up to Phase Two
Module  3 will examine the importance of developing a growth mindset within the learning environment as the classroom moves to a Phase Two learning environment.  In this module, the participants will learn about data folders, differentiated checklist, a deployment plan, and the critical elements to Phase Two.   
  • Virtual Mini-Lesson with the facilitator - exploring the importance of implementing growth mindset techniques in Phase Two blended learning classroom.  Defining roadblocks and strategies to move to a successful Phase Two learning environment 
  • Discussion Questions
  • Project: Designing a phase two checklist, data folder, or participate in a podcast
  • Technology - exploring creation tools that students can use to showcase their learning 
Module 4: Moving to Phase Three
Module 4 will examine in-depth how to implement student-generated checklist within the classroom to allow students to work at his/her own pace and to take ownership of their learning. The teacher will also develop and deploy a Phase Three checklist that includes a Project-Based Learning option.
  • Virtual Mini- developing and creating a student-generated checklist.  The mini-lesson will showcase sample checklist, how to construct a weekly lesson and the importance of mini-lessons
  • Discussion Questions
  • Project - building and deploying a student-generated Phase three checklist template 
  • Technology - exploring communication and critical thinking tools
Module 5: Student, Parent, and Colleague Buy-In
Module 5 will showcase how to generate buy-in of the Three Phases fo Blended Learning process with students, parents, and work colleagues.  This module will provide strategies, talking points, and sample data points from classrooms that have successfully deployed the program
  • Virtual Mini Lesson -Talking points for the students, parents, and colleagues that are spectacle about blended learning. 
  • Discussion Questions
  • Project - Develop level up Strategies for yourself based on the self-evaluation using the blended learning rubric
  • Technology - Connectedness Technology Tools that promote Future Ready Skills 
Module 6: Resources and Strategies 
Module 6 will provide educators with more daily resources and guides for blended learning.  From possible classroom layouts, blended learning posters, and a month by month deployment plan, Module 6 is a combination of coaching items that Marcia Kish has deployed over the last ten years of coaching.
