Discussion Questions
Question 1:
In Part 2, Chapter 3 "Starting the Rallying Cry", Michael Horn talks a lot about buying technology just for buying technology sake. I see this a lot in schools and in school districts where the school will go and purchase technology and then just expect teachers to figure out how to use it to enhance their learning. For example, the SmartBoard. I can not tell you how many teachers are actually using the SmartBoard the correct way. Most of the teachers are just using it as a glorified overhead projector. However, schools jumped on the SmartBoard Bandwagon and bought one for every classroom. As a you start to take on the blended learning journey we need to talk about what the school district and principals the goals for the implementation of blended learning. The most successful blended programs begin generally in response to a desire to (1) boost student achievement and quality of life through personalization, (2) provide access to out-of-reach courses and opportunities, (3) improve a school system's financial health, or (4) a combination of all three. For this discussion question, pick one of the three listed items above and explain how blended learning and technology will help to accomplish that goal. Question 2:
My favorite quote is "Change your space, change your mindset", M. Kish. How can changing your space spin you into developing a blended learning environment? Think about what Michael Horn stated in chapter 4.
